Wat Suan Dok
The North's largest chapel royal. The principal Buddaha statue is a huge cast image named Phra Chao Kao Tu.
Wat Phra Singha
The most complete version of Lanna chapel and is home to Phra Buddha Sihing, considered Chiang Mai's important and sacred Buddha images.
Wat Chiang Man
The first temple buil in Chiang Mai around 1300 A.D. Formerly it was the residence of King Mengrai, the founder of Chiang Mai. There are two famouse Buddha images in this temple.
Wat Chedi Luang
This temple was built in 1411 A.D. The big Chedi was damanged by an earthquake in 1545 A.D. and has never been restored.
Wat Ku Tao
The Chedi was built in 1613 A.D. in the shape of five guards of diminishing sizes and beautifully decorated with colored porcelain, representing five lord Buddhas.
Wat Jedyod
Wat Jedyod or Wat Botharam Maha Vihara is located outside Chiang Mai City on the northwest bank of the Mae Khan river. The temple was buit in 1451 A.D. by Phya Tilokaraja, the 9th King of Lanna A.D. 1442-1487 ( B.E. 1985-2030 )
Wat Phra Borommathat Doi Suthep
Situated on Doi Suthep, a large golden pagoda in the center of the temple containing a part of the holy relics of the lord Buddha. This is a holy spot visited throughtout the year by Buddhist pilgrims from all over the world. This temple was built by King Keu Na in 1383 A.D.
Wat Phra That Si Chom Thong Wora Wihan
Located on Doi Chom Thong, Chom Thong District, 58 Kms.on Chiang Mai - Hod Rd. away from town. The temple is one of the most important sites of Chiang Mai because it houses a holy relic of the Lord Buddaha, beleived to be parts of the right side of Lord Buddha's head. It is intersting that the relic is not buried underground, as are most, but is kept in a container in the temple and can be taken to bath for blessings. Legend has it that Lord Buddha came to hilltop where the temple now stands and foretold that the place would later house a holy relic. The holy relic was found in 1452 by Mrs. Meng and Mr. Soi, who built a pagoda as well as a priest's bedchamber at Doi Din Thong. The temple was therefore named Wat Chom Thong . Later, King Muang Kaew, the 4th ruler of the Mangrai Dynasty, built the main assembly hall here.
Wat Phra That Doi Kham
The sacred temple was built more than 1300 years ago, in 687 A.D. It had been abandoned, but in 1966 villagers discovered a hidden chamber containing many ancient Buddha images of various sizes, and this find prompted a revitalization.
Wat U Mong
Built in 1296 by King Meng Rai, it is situated in a rustic forest setting on Suthep Road and was renovated during the reign of King Keu Na. This famous meditation temple is unique in its large tunnel-like construction.
